Big Creek Camping and Floating the Joe

July 10-12 is our camp out on Big Creek near Calder, Idaho. Bring tubes, etc. to float the St. Joe river.
Directions:
From St. Maries, Idaho, head East on the St. Joe River Road for 24 miles. Turn Left onto Calder Rd/Elk Pr Rd and cross the bridge into Calder. Turn Right on N. Side Rd and head East for 5 miles. Turn Left onto Big Creek Road and continue 3 miles to the campground. Please note this is North of the CCC campground we used a couple years ago (further up Big Creek Road). It is approximately 2 ½ hours / 95 miles from Spokane. It takes about an hour to get there from St. Maries.

Schedule:
Arrive Friday night or Saturday morning.
10am Saturday: Floating the St. Joe River
2pm: Lunch on your own
3:30 Drive to Mass in St. Maries
5pm: Mass
7pm: Dinner in the campground (cooking together), Campfire, Rosary
Sunday 8am: Breakfast (cooking together)
Break camp and head home at your leisure.
Please Note:
There is no cell service or potable water near the camp.
Saturday Dinner and Sunday Breakfast are provided. Bring what you need for other meals and snacks.
The weather report shows sunny with highs around 90F and lows in the mid 50s, though the canyon may be colder at night.
Remember to bring:
Food for meals or snacks other than Saturday Dinner or Sunday Breakfast
Drinking water or the means to filter or treat creek water
Inner tubes, pool floats, or other means of floating the river
Life jackets if desired
Sandals or water shoes you can get wet (the creek has a rocky bottom)
Swim Suits
Towels
Sunscreen
Bug spray
Warm clothes (The canyon gets cold at night, even in the summer)
Camping gear (see TSG Checklist)
Garbage Bags
Fishing gear (Adults must have Idaho fishing license if you want to fish. Regs at this link)
